J'taime Paris

The more we go to Paris, the more we love it. Today was a glorious day. Sunny and not too hot. The last two times we were here was in December and cold. But I forgot about the crowds! OMG! Beverly Hills in tourist season is nothing in comparison.
We got in last night and went to dinner at La Avenue, around the corner from our hotel. We discovered it on a previous trip and go back every time we come here. Many Americans and Brits go there. A young American woman was sitting at the next table by herself. We started talking and it turns out she lives in Beverly Hills, bought her house through the broker who lives across the street from us. She is 31 and married and bought a house on North Oakhurst, around the corner from her parents. But she did not go to BH schools, so didn't know our kids. What a small world.

Today, I went to the Musee D'Orsay to see the Crime and Punishment exhibit. It was very interesting, starting with Cain and Abel, and then through French history. It included a Guillotine and other instruments of torture as well as paintings, sculpture, newspaper drawings and more. Unfortunately I had limited time and had to rush through half of it to meet Joel for lunch.
This afternoon I went on a walking tour of Revolutionary France. We walked where King Louis XVI was beheaded, and where Marie Antoinette was beheaded months later after being locked up in the Conciergerie,(right) which is now a Courthouse near Notre Dame. I had forgotten many of the details, stuff that wasn't necessarily in Les Mis. We have to get our history from somewhere other than Broadway musicals.

Dinner tonite with a partner of Joel's at Les Bouquinistes, a Guy Savoy restaurant. Needless to say, it was wonderful. Why is the food here so wonderful?

Tomorrow, a long awaited Chocolate tour. Yummmmmmmm.
